Our mission here at Miss Carolyn's Montessori pre-school is to provide an educational, creative, social and pleasurable experience for your child. She/He will be able to associate with other children in our Montessori environment specifically tailored to the needs of small children.
In our Waterford, MI location we have a complete Montessori program with equipment in all developmental areas: Practical Life (washing, polishing, sorting, personal care, food preparation, etc.); Sensorial (texture, weight, size, color, shape, sound); Mathematics (proportion, counting, decimal beads, computation); Language (verbal development, pre-writing and writing, pre-reading and reading, Spanish); Geography (large puzzle maps and related materials); and Botany.
We also offer many additional experiences in science, including simple experiments, magnets, magnifying lenses, balance, and measuring equipment, plants to care for, and a variety of nature study materials such as rocks and shells.
Our creative pre-school program is complete and varied with art materials placed where the children may use them freely. There are also teacher-directed art projects, where new media and techniques are introduced. Prints and paintings are shown to the children and left in the classroom to be enjoyed. The music program includes singing, sound and motion games.
Large muscle equipment includes climbing, balancing, sliding, sandbox, and other physical apparatus. There are large and small group activities and games, poetry and singing, books for free and group reading.
Most importantly, Miss Carolyn's Montessori pre-school is committed to reaching these goals while at the same time providing a Christian foundation, based on love and respect for the young child.
Additionally, we believe that we fill a special niche for those parents who are not quite ready to place their child in a larger setting, such as a child care center or school. Our more intimate (never more than six children) and home-like environment here at Miss Carolyn's Montessori aids the children in making a successful transition from their home to a classroom with their peers.
